Private sewing lessons for kids or grown-ups at my Oakland studio or your home in the East Bay. Bring a project that you want to create or alter, or we'll design one together from scratch!
Who it's for
One student, age 6 and up. The whole lesson is shaped around what you want to learn.
For younger children I ask that a parent take part alongside them. If you're not sure whether your child is ready, get in touch and we'll talk it through.
What we'll do
There's no fixed curriculum. We start with what you want to make or fix, and pick up the skills that get you there.
- Bring a project you're stuck on, or design something new together
- Hand sewing, machine sewing, or a bit of both — your choice
- Learn your own machine, or use one of mine (no machine required)
- Mending, altering, and fitting clothes to your actual body
- Reading and adjusting patterns, cutting, pinning, and finishing

Questions I get asked
Do I need my own sewing machine?
No. You're welcome to use a machine here. If you have one you'd like to learn, bring it and we'll work on yours.
Do I need to bring materials?
Some materials are provided and included in the price. Contact me, and I can let you know what I have! If you want a specific fabric or pattern, bring it along.
Can you come to my house?
Yes — lessons happen at my studio or at your place for a small travel fee. Just let me know where you are.
Can I bring my own project?
Absolutely. A half-finished quilt, pants that don't fit, a costume with a deadline — bring it and we'll work on it.
Can two people share a lesson?
Private lessons are built for one student at a time, but sometimes it makes sense to teach siblings or friends with some experience together. Contact me to discuss what you have in mind.
